Our Story Since 1986

The story of ESH began in Germany, in 1986, when professional bassist Peter Sonntag joined forces with Dieter Erhard and Andreas Hövelmann to create a new kind of bass guitar.

Driven by Peter's experience as a musician, they set out to improve the sound, responsiveness and playability of electric basses. Their innovative designs soon gained recognition among musicians and within the international music industry.

Over the following decades, ESH instruments found their way into the hands of musicians such as Peter Steele (Type O Negative), Adam Duce (Machine Head), Ted Lundström (Amon Amarth), Kay Lutter (In Extremo) and many others.

In 2012, a new chapter began under the leadership of Petr Vykydal and NBE. Today, ESH basses are handcrafted in Hořovice, Czech Republic, continuing the brand's legacy of craftsmanship and innovation.

In 2026, we celebrate our 40th anniversary by returning to where it all began: with a special edition of Peter Sonntag's original bass design.
